HOW TO: soothe itchy skin

It's February and for so many washies, the winter itch is in full swing! There are several different causes of dry skin especially during the colder months of winter. Some of the most common reasons include:

    • Change in temperature
    • Over bathing
    • Age (younger and older populations tend to be most vulnerable)
And although anyone from birth on up can get a winter rash, but some people are more prone than others. You’re more likely to develop a winter rash if you have a history of:
  • eczema
  • rosacea
  • dermatitis
  • allergies
  • asthma
  • sensitive skin

Spending a lot of time outdoors may also raise your risk of developing a winter rash.

Limit baths and showers to 5 minutes.
Use lukewarm water.

Don't scratch

Vigorous rubbing or scratching triggers an irritant reaction in the skin, which induces more itching

Pat your skin dry when leaving the shower but let it remain a bit wet. Then apply an intensive moisturizer to the skin like our Plant Body Butter!

At the end of the day, without showering again, apply another coat of moisturizer.
Put a humidifier in the room that you spend most of your time in to replenish the moisture in the air.
