HOW TO: make your home eco-friendly
Now more than ever is the time to care about living a greener life for a healthier planet. I know it can sometimes feel very overwhelming (and intimidating) to think that your daily habits all need to be revamped in order to live more eco-friendly. I assure you small changes can make a BIG difference and I created a beginners list below of 7 easy steps you can take today. Washie- you've got this!
In its 2018 special report on Global Warming of 1.5°C, the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) warned that we only have twelve years to prevent the worst impacts of climate change. Let's make changes together for a greener future.
1.) One of the easiest ways to incorporate greener living immediately is to stop using disposable bags. Have fun investing in some cute reusable bags—
these bags are so durable with lots of designs to choose from (and they are washable).
2.) Use more rags, fewer paper towels. Cut up old shirts to make rags (just like grandma did!) and launder them in a batch whenever you run out. You can even enjoy zero waste sponges!
3.) Buy an inexpensive reusable water bottle, and stop buying plastic disposable bottles. Klean Kanteen is one of my personal favs!
4.) Wash laundry in cold water instead of hot. Hang clothes when the weather permits outside on a clothesline or enjoy a portable clothes drying rack. Amazon has lots of affordable options to choose from.
5.) Give life to old tee shirts! Use more rags, fewer paper towels. Cut up old shirts to make rags (or any other good fabric from old clothes) and launder them in a batch whenever you run out.
6.) Don’t turn on lights at all for as long as you can — teach your little ones the same. Open your curtains and use natural light for as long as possible during the day. Turn off lights when you leave the room.
7.) Planning your day with purpose- combine as many errands as you can in one trip. Carpool for work and extracurriculars when possible.
