Pay attention to the Seasons
There are so many benefits to shopping for produce that aligns to the current season. One of the biggest advantages is the dramatic taste difference between a sun-ripened summer tomato and one served in the middle of winter. By aiming to cook meals that use seasonal ingredients as much as possible, the food not only tastes so much richer, but it’s also easier to source the produce close to home.
Use your Grocery Store
In between your runs to the farmer’s markets, your local grocery store can be a great way to to support local farmers.
Take time to look through the aisles for "Made Local" labels or even an entire section of the market dedicated to your local growers and farmers.
Visit your Family Farms
Keeping food close to home makes a difference on so many levels. Many local growers and farmers come from a long line of farmers and are committed to moving forward with sustainable, earth-conscious practices—supporting them directly is a huge asset to your community.
What a wonderful lesson to teach your children to know where your food comes and who it supports. As a bonus, many local farms have fun activities and holiday events for the entire family to enjoy!
